I have been using a Bay trail atom computer had bought from ebay with ubuntu server 16.04 and I have been experiencing strange issues.

My first issue was that when I shut down the machine sometimes it was hanging, either before shut down or in restart around UTMP. I looked at its BIOS and saw that the setting was OS Selection: Windows 8 and it had another selection Windows 7/Linux which I set and seemed to remedy the reboot situation.

Another issue then occurred. While in Linux (OS Selection, BIOS) mode, I could not print with CUPS. Doing an lpstat -p -d it returns that the printer was unavailable, while when I switch back to Windows 8 (OS Selection, BIOS) the printer works fine.

I've seen reports of an IOMMU Controller in this forum, but I have not seen any IOMMU in the BIOS settings. I also tried the kernel attribute of cstate but that didn't work.

Is this having to do anything with the UEFI situation? (32bit against 64bit os)? Do I need a bios update from the manufacturer?

I have installed ubuntu server 16.04.6 with the latest updates. Tried to install kernel 5.2 as they say they have a definitive fix for bay trail atom, but I can't get past libssl 1.1 requirement.

Any suggestions or posts I can follow?
