I imagine this has something to do with alerts (which I have disabled because they are crazy annoying).
Basically, if I tab-complete a command in the terminal, the music in the background cuts out for about 300ms... Amazing
What can this be? I don't have any funky bash completers, the same thing happens in a clean bash environment. How do I just turn all this rubbish off? There's no way completing a command should BLOCK ALL OTHER AUDIO!!!
There is something going on in the background, if I press tab-complete after a few seconds, I get the hiccup. Then I can keep tab-completing until I stop for a few more seconds. So clearly there is some kind of indexing / check for "should i play an infuriating beep at the user" logic going on in a timer. PLEASE STOP THAT!
Edit: after more experimenting, this must have something to do with talking with GNOME sound about playing something if I hit the wrong key, how can I completely disable that codepath? It's tempting to ditch GNOME for this insane default
