On Ubuntu 18.04 I've begun to experience this strange problem recently.
I often use my laptop as a desktop computer by connecting external mouse and keyboard with a different layout (via USB hub) in addition to an external monitor (HDMI). This has been working smoothly until a couple of days ago. So I suspect some package update might have a bug causing this, but I cannot tell which.
How can I find out what is causing my external keyboard layout to be reset to the default system keyboard layout from time to time?
