I need to set a drive partition as the "/" directory. I've managed to mess this up and now it's not sure what to use as "/" it's only giving me the terminal, and I'm not seeing the option for this in fdisk or parted. due to how this system is setup hardware-wise, this thing is basically bricked if I can't restore the "/" directory.
thank you for your time!

If you are at a terminial then you have mounted / , or are you at a grub terminal with very limited boot commands available? May be best to see details, use ppa version with your live installer or any working install, not older Boot-Repair ISO: Please copy & paste link to the Boot-info summary report ( do not post report), the auto fix sometimes can create more issues. help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

I am unable to use any installers, this device doesn't have the option for external disks, and I can't access the internal disk of the device using another computer. the terminal I'm getting is when I turn the thing on, is says Ubuntu, and says there's an error mounting / , and I select the option to manually fix. I can't play with ISOs, It also looks like I can't tell it to install anything through apt-get. what are my options?

What brand/model system? Are you able to boot to recovery mode?
– oldfred
Apr 13 at 21:54
it's an Intel compute stick, first gen, Ubuntu version. It's been a pain to toy with. it refuses to let me boot anything off USB or SD card, and I may have unintentionally deleted the recovery mode partition. I did back up that partition to my USB drive, but I can't do anything with that until I boot back into the OS, which isn't working. if there's not a way to set the primary partition back to being " / ", then the thing is bricked.
