I have been using a multiseat configuration in an old stable 16.04. Setting up was tricky but I was finally successful.

The other day, I decided to make a HW upgrade + OS upgrade. However, I realized that while using 18.04.3, a strange behaviour happens regarding systemd logind mechanism.

  • If I try loginctl seat-status, I am given the following error:

Could not get properties: Caller does not belong to any known session

  • If I switch to init 3 and do loginctl seat-status, I am given the standard tree of devices.

This behaviour happens both in Live USB (Try ubuntu) and upon installation.

I think that this issue is what is preventing me from configuring correctly the multiseat configuration --the X seems to ignore the seat, probably because it doesn't know which is the seat the process is in. The error in the X I am seeing, which seems the root of the problem, is the following:

[ 6.710] (EE) systemd-logind: failed to get session: PID 1147 does not belong to any known session
