It looks like you tried to run an incorrect command that looks like this:

sudo apt install libx Unable to install Kompozer in Ubuntu 3 11-6

Instead of running a command that looks like this:

sudo apt install libx11-6

Somehow or another you accidentally pasted the string Unable to install Kompozer in Ubuntu 3 in the middle of the command, so let's start over from the beginning and run the following commands in Ubuntu 18.04-19.10. For Ubuntu 16.04 go back to the same link that you mentioned in your question, and follow the instructions for installing Kompozer in 16.04 instead of 18.04.

sudo apt install libatk1.0-0 libc6 libcairo2 libfontconfig1 libfreetype6 libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 libglib2.0-0 libgtk2.0-0 libnspr4 libnss3 libpango1.0-0 libstdc++6 libx11-6 libxft2 libxinerama1 libxrender1 libxt6 zlib1g
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/kompozer-data_0.8%7Eb3.dfsg.1-0.1ubuntu2_all.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/kompozer_0.8%7Eb3.dfsg.1-0.1ubuntu2_amd64.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb
wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libpng12-0_1.2.54-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo apt install ./libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb
sudo apt install ./libpng12-0_1.2.54-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo apt install ./kompozer-data_0.8~b3.dfsg.1-0.1ubuntu2_all.deb
sudo apt install ./kompozer_0.8~b3.dfsg.1-0.1ubuntu2_amd64.deb

Note that first you need to download libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb with wget before you can install it with sudo apt-get install ./package.deb

To start kompozer, open the terminal and run kompozer

Thank you: I have poured over the link although I can't see how to use its content: Listed are every command I see.

sudo dpkg --configure -a
foo@foo:~$ sudo apt-get install -f
dpkg --get-selections | grep hold
sudo aptitude install <packagename>
sudo aptitude -f install <packagename>
sudo apt-get autoremove

I want to assured you I have looked at every line: 3rd through 5th are unfamilar to me and I don't understand how they may fix a broken package.
Thank you

  • aptitude doesn't simply fix things by itself. Instead aptitude suggests actions that you could take that could fix the problem. aptitude can be a bit difficult to master, so I made a list of simpler replacements for aptitude for beginners: askubuntu.com/questions/223237/…

  • I am new to this, so I interpreted the command you suggested to download as "wget libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb" and that gave me --2018-10-01 15:45:01-- libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb Resolving libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb (libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb)... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address ‘libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb’

  • That's wrong. Ther correct command is wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libidl0_0.8.14-1_amd64.deb Make sure that each command is pasted correctly before you run it. The links to download the 4 files that should be downloaded by wget are all live and all 4 links work.

  • I have done that, Thank you. I have looked for a start icon in "show applications" and on the left hand tool bar. I have searched for kompozer. I will try it again. Again Thanks

  • Errors were encountered while processing: kompozer_0.8~b3.dfsg.1-0.1ubuntu2_amd64.deb To my best I copied your corrected code line and then the 9 lines of code: I have the 64 bit Bionic Beaver 18.04.1 installed on an HP 8200, which is 64 bit. but I see errors that make me question the computer or the software package architecture (amd64) does not match system (i386) This error shows up in a few of the returns from the entry of a line of code.
