I have some similar problem as one question previously asked (Canon printer won't print PDF files) with my HP LaserJet Pro M252n on Ubuntu 18.04.
I summarised the problems for mine:
1. The libreOffice formats, pictures (including whole pictures in pdf form) are totally fine.
When I print pdf with letters, they can have three types of behaviours:
2.1. Some of them are total fine, printable.
2.2. The printers starts to process after printing command, but goes back to idling without printing anything.
3.3. If I print several pages, only the first page gets printed, but sometimes completely without letters, or partially miss pictures in pdf, or completely nothing (single blank paper). When I print test page, completely fine, but when I try to print something from notepad, it prints blank paper.
I normally print it through intranet, I then tried using USB connection, the problem is the same.
I previously used the same Ubuntu version and didn't find problem (without manually installing driver) until I recently reinstalled it because I changed a larger SSD. In order to solve the problem, I also downloaded the printer manager of HP and use it to diagnose errors but it says everything is fine.
Do you have any clue where should I fix this problem?
